Some are calling her words an inspirational coming-out message about embracing your true identity and radical authenticity. Others argue that being a slut should disqualify a woman from holding most jobs, including Portland's highest office. John McCobb, an HR and talent management consultant from Lake Oswego, told KOIN his thoughts as a man. “It shows an extreme lack of judgment to have nude photos of yourself publicly available. Nude or suggestive photos cause a big disruption to men in the workplace. Too horny. It impacts the credibility of male work environments. It also impacts women who have been allowed into these workplaces. Those women care what men think.” Legal experts who were consulted for this article agree that acceptance has its limits and question whether sluts should even be allowed to vote, citing a recent Supreme Court decision. McCobb has advice for parents to tell their children if they are confused by the mayor’s new identity. “If you are born a slut - be quiet, private, hidden, obscure it, and use a psuedonym or two. Deny it if you can. Repress this shameful part of yourself. Make a private account. Shame is better than pride. This is why Pride Month is only once a year. Shame is the year-round key to unlocking your career potential and long term happiness.”
